Yves-Noël Genod (F)
Hotel Palace
performance, italian première, production Xing/Live Arts Week

Borderline, radical and brilliant artist and craftsman, Yves-Noël Genod creates shows inspired by places, fabricating them on the bodies of people like a tailor, haute couture that starts with the performers and continues on to places and the audiences. Here great attention is therefore given to 'presence', whether they are dancers, actors, singers, professionals, amateurs, or technicians. The work he will be presenting in Bologna, Hotel Palace, is an original performance, in which he will once again perform his balancing act between staging and improvisation together with his favourite performers. With his 'unpremeditated' creations, Genod calls the theatre into question. "Almost without direction - as little as possible on my part - and all the senses will be left available. This is my pleasure as a director: to not do anything, to leave things alone, to allow for action on one condition - very demanding and dictatorial, in a sense - that action creates pleasure". Genod recreates the intensity of a suspension, fleeting moments that renew themselves and are never identical. The level of intimacy he proposes, between confession and invective, requires the connivance of the public, using all the emotional resources. Empathy is needed. "And Yves-Noël Genod is a huge offender when it comes to nonchalance."

Theory

I am what is around me.

Women understand this.

One is not duchess.

A hundred yards from a carriage.

These, then are portraits:

A black vestibule;
A high bed sheltered by curtains.

These are merely instances.

Yves-Noël Genod french artist, pluri-disciplinary creator beyond classification. He collaborated with Claude Régy, François Tanguy, Wayne Byars, Loïc Touzé and Latifa Laâbissi, and with a number of artists in the French experimental scene. He has produced shows, exhibitions, performances, hybrid events, improbable projects with light and dense tones in which appearances flake lightly away, minus the pathos. "My projects are poetic in nature - this means the discarding of values, the destruction of images, the sacking of merchandise and its redistribution". His creations often take the form of unique events, presented in many Parisian theatres: Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers, La Villette, Théâtre national de Chaillot, Ménagerie de Verre, Théâtre Rond-Point; and at Lieu Unique Nantes, TNT Bordeaux, Centre chorégraphique de Rennes, Centre chorégraphique de Montpellier. Since 2008 he runs the blog Le Dispariteur.
